Match ratings and season ratings tell different stories
A brilliant Saturday can stand out. A season reveals how much evidence sits behind a player’s performances.
Use match ratings to explore a particular game
Look at the scorecard alongside the rating. Runs, balls faced where recorded, bowling figures and named fielding contributions help explain that day’s performance.
Use season ratings alongside the sample size
Always check how many rated matches a player has. One or two appearances offer less evidence than a longer season. CricRate’s season rating uses its season model, so it can differ from a simple match-rating average.
Keep the XI and season consistent
If someone plays for several sides, compare the same XI and year first. A player’s season for one team need not match their season for another.
A useful comparison checklist
- Check the player’s XI and season.
- Check their number of rated appearances.
- Read their batting and bowling statistics alongside the rating.
- Check for missing or unrated records.
